Catalog: Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum
Located southwest of Alexanderplatz – where the districts of Mitte and Kreuzberg come together – is an area undergoing a “critical reconstruction,” an expression used in urban planning to refer to the “mixed-use zoning of closed block developments.” In reality, the area is more like an “un- or under-developed green and vacant space.” Situated precisely in the dead center of the city, on what was formerly the Berlin Wall, this area presents a setting in which economic strategies of land divestiture and the politics of sociological urban development have played out in slow motion. In 2006, Matthias Einhoff, Philip Horst, Markus Lohmann, Harry Sachs and Daniel Seiple appropriated the land as Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum.
